Our
Philosophy
No system, be it martial arts, business, religious,
or personal belief, is complete without an
understanding of the philosophy that drives it.
Here at The Edge, we have taken the time to sit down
and commit ours to paper. We believe that this not
only cements our thoughts and theories, but allows
you, the student, to know and understand the
philosophy that drives our school!
Our first point is function. Webster's
defines function as “the
action for which a person or thing is specially
fitted or used or for which a thing exists”
. For our purposes that means that we strive
to teach you a martial arts system that actually
works! At it's core, and the base of what is taught
here at The EDGE, is a functional martial arts
system that your Coaches have spent many years
compiling. It is also our belief that functional
students are not just able to be so in the Academy,
but also in their daily lives outside of the
school. You will hear it said here over and over,
“A black belt in the martial arts and a white belt
in life, is a failure.”
The second point is that your Coaches will not
comprise on their belief's. While our
curriculum is a living document (meaning that our
personal investigations into the martial arts are
still ongoing. And as we find better, more direct
ways of learning and teaching, they are incorporated
into our system), we absolutely refuse to water down
our training approach and comprimise our clients
continuing performance. However, functional training
does not mean uneducated, unfocused brutality in
training. We use cutting edge training methods to
help each student meet their personal goals.
In
our third philosophical point, we believe in
teaching a good, solid program. We believe that
for a student to excel they need good instruction in
useful techniques, in a well equipped learning
environment. We believe it is our duty to provide a
good learning environment and able Coaches and
Assistants to teach our students. That means we
understand that each student comes to the Edge with
their own personal set of goals. Their are many
different reasons people choose to train; fitness,
self defense, self confidence, fun, and a small
percentage want to Fight in the ring or the cage. It
is a mistake to train all of these students with
same intensity as a fighter getting prepared to
enter the cage . It would also be a mistake to train
your fighters in a training program that would not
prepare them for the intensity they would see in
competition. Each students goals are evaluated and a
program that fits their specific needs is
incorporated. Thats how you get the edge!
Our fourth point is one of business integrity.
We believe in “truth in advertising”, never selling
ourselves or our product as something it is not. We
believe in the integrity of our contracts, and in
truthfulness in our dealings with them. We are not
the high pressured salesmen they try to lock you
into long unfair contracts that forget how important
the integrity between people is. We believe in
commitment, but that is not a cover story or an
excuse to act like the huge corporations that forget
how important the relationship is in any good
business between good people. Our policy once a
student joins is an ongoing membership that can be
ended at anytime with a 90 day cancellation notice.
At THE EDGE, we believe Honor is more then a buzz
word used in a selling process.
Our fifth and final point is one of our more
important issues. We believe that our martial arts
program exists to facilitate our students
personal growth. We believe in our duty to do
so not just in the Academy but to push our students
to pursue development in their personal and business
lives as well. We encourage our students to excel
in all areas of their lives! Martial Arts training
can literally change your life. The great thing
about physical training is how honest it is. When
you are tired you make a decision to push through
and get better or quit, it is up to you. The ability
to push, to not quit will affect every part of your
life like nothing else. Our goal is to help you
become a black belt in the dojo and more importantly
in life as well.
So welcome to THE EDGE! We believe that you will
not only enjoy the martial arts systems taught here,
but that you will learn more about yourself as a
person and endeavor to make that person the best,
whole being possible!
Your Coaches (and eternal students!)
