JUNIOR JIU-JITSU

Strong Bodies. Confident Minds. Great Character.

Every parent wants their child to feel confident, stay active, make good decisions, and know how to protect themselves.

The Junior Jiu-Jitsu Program at The Edge Martial Arts helps children develop those qualities through exciting, age-appropriate martial arts training. Students learn practical Jiu-Jitsu skills while building discipline, respect, focus, fitness, and the confidence to face challenges both on and off the mat.

Our coaches provide a safe, structured, and encouraging environment where beginners feel welcome, every child is valued, and progress is celebrated.

What Is Junior Jiu-Jitsu?

images-26.jpeg

Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling-based martial art that teaches children how to use balance, movement, positioning, timing, and leverage instead of relying only on size or strength.

More Than Martial Arts

The Edge MM_Comp_Final.jpg

Students learn fundamental movements, escapes, takedowns, control positions, and age-appropriate self-defense. They also practice how to remain calm, think clearly, and make smart decisions when facing pressure.

Classes are challenging, energetic, and fun—but every activity has a purpose.

Learning techniques is only part of our Junior Jiu-Jitsu Program. We want every student to develop the personal qualities needed to succeed at home, at school, and throughout life.

Through our Mat Monster character program and 7-5-3 Samurai Code, students explore important values such as:

Benefits of Junior Jiu-Jitsu

Confidence

Children gain genuine confidence by learning new skills, overcoming challenges, and seeing their own improvement. Each small success shows them what they can accomplish through effort and consistency.

Practical Self-Defense

Students learn how to recognize danger, protect themselves, escape common grabs and holds, and control a situation without depending entirely on punches or kicks.

We also teach children that the best self-defense begins with awareness, confident communication, good decisions, and knowing when to ask an adult for help.

Bully Prevention

Jiu-Jitsu helps children develop the posture, awareness, communication skills, and confidence that may discourage bullying. If a situation becomes physical, students have practical tools for protecting themselves and getting to safety.

Just as importantly, they learn that martial arts skills should never be used to intimidate or bully others.

Focus and Discipline

Following instructions, working with a partner, remembering techniques, and practicing consistently all help improve concentration and self-control.

Students learn that progress does not happen instantly—it comes from listening, practicing, and refusing to give up.

Fitness and Coordination

Junior Jiu-Jitsu keeps children moving. Training helps develop strength, balance, flexibility, coordination, cardiovascular fitness, and body awareness through activities that are much more engaging than an ordinary workout.

Problem-Solving Skills

Jiu-Jitsu is often described as physical chess. Students learn to remain calm, recognize problems, consider their choices, and find solutions.

These skills can help children become more patient and resilient when facing challenges away from the academy.

Friendship and Teamwork

Although Jiu-Jitsu develops individual skills, children cannot improve without trustworthy training partners. Students learn how to cooperate, communicate, encourage one another, and take responsibility for their partner’s safety.

What Will My Child Experience?

A typical class may include:

  • An organized warm-up

  • Fundamental movement and coordination exercises

  • Clearly demonstrated Jiu-Jitsu techniques

  • Partner drills with coach supervision

  • Age-appropriate games and challenges

  • Practical self-defense lessons

  • A short character-development Mat Chat

Safety, respect, and good training habits are reinforced throughout every class.

Does My Child Need Experience?

Absolutely not.

Most children begin with no martial arts experience. Our coaches introduce the fundamentals one step at a time and help each student progress at an appropriate pace.

Your child does not need to be naturally athletic, unusually confident, or already in shape. The program is designed to help them develop those qualities through training.

Give Your Child The Edge

The lessons children learn on the mat can remain with them for the rest of their lives.

Junior Jiu-Jitsu can help your child become more confident, focused, physically active, respectful, and prepared to handle challenges. Along the way, they will learn valuable skills, make new friends, and have a great time.
